Writers Block

Writer: Shiela StewartShiela Stewart

Like many authors, at one time or another, we face writers block. It is a horrible feeling. To not be able to put something down, to not be able to create is devastating. I've had a block for a long time now. I find myself with a general idea but when I sit down to write, it feels forced. At most, I've written a few pages and then my brain losing its creativity and I'm blocked.

I told my husband that the voice inside my head that creates is gone. The words used to just flow and often my hands had a hard time keeping up. I used to be able to take a sentence and turn it into a 200,00 word story. Kidnapped is an example.

One night while I was trying to sleep, a sentence popped into my head.

"Well wasn't this a fine situations she'd gotten herself into, and won't dear old dad be thrilled to find out his daughter has been kidnapped."

From that sentence alone, I created a 150,000 word story. Of course when it was first published, the word could had to be shaved down, A LOT! When finished the story was 45,000 words. A lot of the fun parts of the story were removed and the publisher wanted it to be more serious. I was devastated, but I did as the publisher asked. I've often considered editing the original and submitting it to my my current publisher.

That would be if the voice in my head could still create.

My Dr say's part of it could be the meds I'm on. But do I go off of it to create again and risk slipping back into depression. The answer is clear. No!

So what else can I do?

I have several stories pilled up in my folder of possible submissions, but I cant even go through it and edit it. Again, the voice just isn't there.

As I said, its devastating for an author to have writers block.

I hope mine will end soon and I can get back to creating stories.

Until next time. TTFN!
