Boob Tube Friday.

Well, it’s finally Friday. And that means I’ll be discussing another of my favorite shows. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the new show to begin.

I love Sarah Michelle Geller-Prince. I think she’s a great actress. I’ve seen her movies and she’s good at both comedy and serious. Although, I know what you did last summer was a corney movie. I enjoyed her character in The Grudge and loved the movie. In the movie Possessed, she played a whole different character, and it was a surprise to me to see her so different.  I started watching Wolf Pack, but they cancelled it right when it started getting good. ☹ Currently I’m watching Dexter, The Original Sin. She plays CSI Chief Tanya Martin who is smart and sassy. I watched the series Ringer, and it was good, just not great.

I first saw her on All My Children playing Kendell, the daughter of Erica Kane. I thought she was a good actress, but nothing special. Then Buffy came along, and I was, “Hey, she was on All my Children” I had no trouble distinguishing between her two characters. Buffy was so unique. SMGP played Buffy so perfectly.

I didn’t start watching until she was already on her third season. So, I had a lot to catch up on. I had no idea that originally Willow was just supposed to be her tutor and Zander was gay. I’m glad they changed it. I’m sure Nicholas Brendan would have done a good job, but I’m glad they changed it. It was my first experience with vampires. I enjoyed watching Buffy grow from a bubbly schoolgirl to a brave strong woman. And we got to see Sarah grow as well.

At first, I didn’t like Angel. I thought, meh, and his wardrobe was horrible. He got better at dressing as the episodes and seasons progressed. He began to grow on me and like everyone else, I drooled watching him. I mean, David Boreanaz. Enough said. (I’ve followed his career as well)

There were some comedic episodes and some heart wrenching ones. When she met Parker, I knew instantly he was a con artist. And when he treated her like shit, I wanted to smack him. But she got her revenge in the episode when drinking beer turns her into a cave woman. She gave him a good thump on his head.

Then came Riley. I was not a fan of his. I especially didn’t like how whiny he became, though Buffy did treat him poorly at times. When he turned to vampires for satisfaction, I knew he had to go. I didn’t miss him when he left. And the episode when they brought him back in full army mode was terrible.

Then came The Body. Yes, I cried, and I still do whenever I rewatch it. I mean, they killed Joyce. But the episode was done so perfectly, and the acting was incredible. Willow worrying about what to wear. Anya not understanding death and Zander being mad. It went through some of the basic ways people deal with the Death. When Buffy had to tell Dawn…I’ve been in that position. It is so hard, and you don’t know what to say or how to break it to the person. Both actresses did a wonderful job. I react exactly like Buffy in situations like that. I put up a wall and do what needs to be done and worry about after, later. I wasn’t fond of Dawn being so bitchy to Buffy instead of being supportive. And when she tried to bring Joyce back from the dead and Buffy finds out. At first, she’s mad but then she hears something outside and runs to the door calling Mommy. So gut-wrenching.  But when she opened the door and no one is there, her and Dawn finally grieving together was perfect.

And when Buffy dies….Lord that was a hard episode, but well done.

Now let’s talk about Spike. He was the best vampire for Buffy—Oh I know I get backlash from all the Angel girls. But Spike knew the rea Buffy. They had some great episodes together. She trusted him with her secret of possibly being in heaven and not Angel. The episode where Spike tries to rape Buffy was hard and disgusting that Spike would do that. It was hard for the viewers but even harder on the actors. James Marsters had so much trouble with the scene that he had to go to therapy. I can’t imagine playing either part.

But then he came back ensouled. Such a perfect performance from him playing a completely opposite character.

I do believe Buffy did love him, just not in the way Spike wanted. His sacrifice broke my heart. And then he shows up on Angel. Yeah!!!

I know I’ve left so much out but I don’t want this to be a novel.

I hope the new series does well because people are so invested in it. It’s going to be tough for the new characters to fill past characters shoes. I would love to see cameos of Willow, Giles and Spike (I know, vampires don’t age)

In any case, I can’t wait to watch it.

Well, that’s t for today.
